It’s been rather sunny up North (for once) over the past few days, so I’ve been digging through my makeup bag for my favouite shades plus a little bit of prep to get rid of any dry skin. I always find the sun dries my lips out as much as the cold in Winter, so find a bit of extra time to take care of my lips so my bright summer shades go on smoothly!
So, to start, I’ll give them a bit of a scrub with my favourite LUSH Popcorn Lip Scrub. It smells lovely, kind of like salty-sweet caramel but works to buff away any dry skin to leave lips looking a bit healthier. You could always make your own scrub too, there’s plenty of DIY tips online! Anyway, afterwards I’ll go over with my favourite lip balm of all time: Korres Lip Butter. I adore this product and think they’re the best lip balms I’ve ever tried, and trust me I’ve tried a lot. The one above is the pomegranate one (I also have mango), which leaves a nice raspberry tint to the lips, perfect if you want a touch of colour but not a full lip shade.
Once my lips have been prepped, I’ll apply my current favourite shade of choice. I’ve been torn between three over the past week or so, as they’re all such perfect warm weather shades. First is my favourite bright red/orange, which I’ve mentioned a lot on my blog recently, which is the wonderful NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square. The formula is amazing and the colour is just so flattering on the lips! Next is a high street option by the name of Revlon Cherries in the Snow. I was surprised how much of a gorgeous hot pink this shade is, as the name suggests it would be more… cherry-like? I’m wearing this as I type and I adore how long lasting it is.
Finally, a new release from a brand I wish I had more access too (they got rid of their concession in my local department store! gutted). The Illamasqua Matte Lip Liquid in Surrender is a perfect peachy shade, which is really perfect for those of us with paler skin. I love the warm tone and how precise the brush is too, always a bonus where you’re a swipe on and go kinda girl like me. Definitely a new release worth checking out!
